Fed: Vale urges Xmas wishes be sent to troops
CANBERRA, Dec 1 AAP - Veterans Affairs Minister Danna Vale today urged Australiansnot to forget the more than 2,500 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel serving overseasthis Christmas.
Their duties included border protection, United Nations operations, coalition operationsand exchange deployments.
"Around the globe, from the northern Persian Gulf to the northern Australian sea andair approaches, from East Timor to Bougainville, Bosnia to Africa and Afghanistan, themen and women of the ADF are performing a range of duties in Australia's national interests,"
Ms Vale said in a statement.
"Christmas is traditionally a time for families and we should be mindful that manyDefence personnel will be deployed away from home for the Christmas and New Year period."
She said messages to troops would give them a sense of genuine appreciation Australiansheld for their difficult yet vital jobs.
She said messages could be sent to: messagestothetroops@defence.gov.au.
