- Foreign Minister Stephen Smith has warned Australians to reconsider travelling to
Bangkok amid violent clashes between soldiers and anti government protesters in which
several civilians have been killed.

- The United Nations Security Council has unanimously condemned North Korea over last
week's rocket launch, issuing a statement saying the launch contravened a UN resolution
banning missile activity.

- US President Barack Obama has vowed to confront the pirates that have been preying
on commercial ships travelling along the east coast of Africa.

- The Polish government has called for three days of national mourning to remember
the 22 people killed in a hostel for the homeless in the country's north west. About 20
people were injured after jumping from the burning building.

- Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting said the team's bowling effort cost his
side victory in the fourth one day match against South Africa.
