Qld: CMC clears Beattie over Tugun Bypass announcement=2
Just days before the election, Mr Beattie announced plans to resume 14 houses on the
eastern side of the Gold Coast airport as part of a new route to solve the traffic bottleneck
at Tugun on the NSW-Queensland border.
The bypass was a major issue on the Gold Coast and contributed to the failure of former
tourism minister Merri Rose to hold on to her seat of Currumbin in which the bypass falls.
The controversial eastern route has since been dropped and replaced with a more acceptable
western alternative following negotiations with the NSW government.
