Qld: Karrie chips in for cinema

Golfing sensation KARRIE WEBB has bought her parents a $1 million cinema in her north
Queensland home town of Ayr.

WEBB bought a derelict cinema at auction in December 1999.

The cinema was pulled down in March and her father, ROBERT, who operates a building
company, started restoring it to its former glory in July.

Last night more than 350 people dressed in movie star costume for the charity gala
opening of the Delta Burdekin twin cinema.

The first films to screen were blockbuster Charlie's Angels and comedy The Nutty Professor
2: The Klumps.

Mr WEBB says the cinema first screened films in 1912, but was closed in 1961 due to
the impact of television.
